Nine and counting...
Just finished and listed "Jungle Cat", the ninth in my Hide-away series of cat portraits I'm currently selling on eBay! I really got "in the mood" over the weekend and finished this one up in about a day. I'm so into it now, I've already got number ten lined up in my head and will be starting on it tonight. The next portrait will be a tortoise shell, rolled up in a rug. Can't wait to get it started, so I'll be sketching it out tonight, and will probably start laying in the color. Catch you later, and I'll post my latest, as well as the next one as soon as I have it completed!

Number Nine
I have been lazy. You can call it a "creative block" or whatever, but the reality is that I just haven't been in the mood to create anything for the past few days. It can get frustrating to see your work, that you have labored over, not get any interest when selling. The sixth kitty in my series, House Sitter, didn't sell; it didn't even have anyone watching it, and I guess I just got a little dejected over it, because I thought it was cute and well done. But I have two more still on eBay, seven and eight of the series, and they both have watchers, so maybe they will sell. I finally got to working on the ninth, a brown tabby laying in the leaves of a plant, and I will of course create him to the best of my abilities. I will post him here when I have finished; I have the house to myself tonight, at least for about four hours, and I will work probably the whole time on number nine. I've been poring over my reference photos, and I think I have the rest of the series layed out in my head, just not sure of the order yet. I'll post again tomorrow when I've finished this one.

The Eighth in the series
I finished the eighth portrait in my hide-away series last night, and put it on eBay today. I really like this one, a cat laying down in a little girl's doll house. My husband and my son said it looks cartoonish; the playhouse is supposed to look that way, but I don't think the cat does. I am enjoying doing a series, it's the first time I've ever done one. Sometimes it's kind of hard to figure out what to do next, though, that is in keeping with the theme. I like being able to paint just whatever I want, or what strikes my fancy, but doing a series like this one means I have to stick with a certain type of portrait. It is interesting though, but once I finish this series, I probably won't do another one for a while. Well, I better get to the ninth; I have to think about what I want to portray in the next of the twelve in this series.

Been a While...
Sorry I haven't kept up with my blog. As you know, I was working on quite a bit of wildlife art, in the hopes of being accepted into the Southeaster Wildlife Expo. I was not accepted. The work I submitted was good, or at least I thought it was good; however, I didn't send good, quality jpg's as I should have; I had a hard time writing them to disk, and ended up taking crappy photos to Wally world to have a CD made. That and the fact that I am a "local" artist probably killed it. I have all the equipment to get quality photos downloaded to CD now. I will not make the same mistake again, and yes, I will try again next year. I don't have to pay an additional jurying fee, it is a one time deal, so that's good. But being denied really got me down, and I haven't created much wildlife art since. Instead I have been creating little 5 x 7 portraits of cats and kittens to sell on eBay. So far I have sold 3 out of 7, but someone is watching another, so maybe it will sell. I decided to do a series, which is called the "Hide away" series, where all of the cats/kittens are in, under, or behind things. They start out at $1.99 each, and that's all I've gotten for one so far. If you are interested in checking them out, type in AMP under search and see them. I'm pretty sure I'm the only AMP out there, but you might get some funky electrical stuff in your search! I'll post a few here later so you can check them out! And if you would like to see what other wildlife art I've done, see my website, www.putmanartstudios.com.

The Red Heads are Coming!
It took alot longer than I anticipated, but I have finished the painting of the Sandhill Cranes! I really enjoyed creating this piece; it is quite large, 12-3/4 x 18! The coloring of these birds made them wonderful to create, with their red and white faces, and gray plumage covered in rust (from the dirt!). I really had fun with this one; of course, I have fun with every painting I do. My next project is a commission piece of a dog, a chow/schnauzer mix (wow, I can hardly wait!), but it is small, only 8 x 10, so I should finish it quickly. Of course, my Saturday is shot, as I will be babysitting my grandkids for the day. I should get the photos of the commission tomorrow or the next day, and as I have arranged my regular J-O-B schedule to get half a day on Fridays off, I should be able to finish the portrait by Monday or Tuesday next week. My next wildlife painting will be of a lioness. I am very much looking forward to creating her!

Beautiful Borzoi
Hey, just finished the Borzoi portrait that I will be listing on eBay this evening. I am posting it here so that if anyone is interested, just visit on eBay and see for yourself how beautiful this portrait really is! Next on my agenda: Sand Hill Cranes for the wildlife show!

Flying High
Well, I didn't get the photo I wanted of the tern I recently started, but the finished product is almost done! I will post it as soon as it is finished, probably tomorrow. I have been so busy trying to get artwork done for the upcoming show that I have not been able to get anything done for my eBay sales, but I will be starting a new portrait after I finish the tern painting. Well, I will get busy on my tern painting so that I can start on the Borzoi I am planning.
